New Years Resolutions

New Year is the perfect time to set new goals, turn some corners and make some important decisions about your life. Perhaps you are now thinking back to those personal promises you made yourself last year? I will exercise more, I will eat better food, I will, I will, I will…. Kind of boring weren’t they?
Instead this year, as you take a step in to 2012 it might be time to think about how you can challenge yourself. Something a little more substantial, something a little more spontaneous, maybe even something a little risky… Go on, you know you want to!
If you have done the predictable resolutions before, and found them a tad mundane, perhaps commit yourself this year (to make use of all the exercise you did last year) to go on a two-month hiking adventure of Tibet and Nepal. Or you could decide that in the new year, you are going to give your job another 6 months, and then you are quitting and move on to an amazing, career improving job (which you will have found by then,) and get paid a lot more! Having a goal makes all the difference. What have you got to lose?
Maybe you need to carve out a little more independence for yourself. If someone, maybe a family member or close friend has been using their influence over you to keep you in a place that suits them, you may need to do something about it. If you feel trapped by other’s expectations, it is time to put your foot down and stand up for yourself.
Or perhaps – if you want to keep it a little more loose, this year you can just promise yourself to say YES to more things than you did last year. Give new things a try, meet new people, and step out of your comfort zone. In 2012 you are a totally new person, and you can imagine yourself however you like.
