Chiara Bianchino is the clever lady behind the fabulous Absorb Video: Tokyo Go! We asked Chiara about how she came up with the concept for this hyperactive hypercoloured fashion clip…

‘My concept for the shoot came from my wanting to experiment with a variety of light sources: neon, UV, fairy lights, and coloured lights.

I was inspired by the infinity rooms artist Yayoi Kusama constructs, and the idea of Tokyo as a frenetic, bright, fast-paced city.

My team and I set up a series of shots each using the different types of lights and the end result was this hyperactive world in which the two models are immersed. Makeup artist Chereine Waddell devised the amazing makeup, using materials that could pick up the UV light to transform the girls once the lights were turned on.

We shot everything in studio, and it took all day to do all the different setups. The photography occurred at the same time as the video shooting and in between takes. The video took a few weeks for editing and postproduction, but the editing on the UV photo was very minimal.

The song is by a Japanese girl band called OOIOO, and the title of the song is "Umo" - we had it on repeat all day during the shoot!’
