Cleaning is an essential part of the religion in many cultures.  In the Hindu culture of Bali, for example, the sweeping of the ground and subsequently making offerings to the Gods is a daily ritual that is faithfully observed.  To the Balinese, the cleaning and clearing of the old energies (dead leaves and debris) is “bhakti”, which means it is a devotional manner of worship that cleanses the area to receive the fresh energies from the Gods.

 Hot Tip for Hoarders

If you haven’t used an item for more than a couple of years, for goodness sake, give it up already, or at least give it to someone else who can use it.  Out with the old energy and in with the new!  Another good rule is: whenever you buy a new item of clothing, try to get rid of a piece that you truly don’t wear.  Holding on to stuff that you don’t use, need, or wear, (or even like!) endorses a mentality of poverty.  Have one of abundance instead.  There’s much to more to come!

“One great rule of thumb for bower birds, who love to hoard stuff for the rainy day that never comes, is to look at the object and ask yourself: Does it lift up your energy?  Or does it bring you down?”

Energy clearing is work

A word of warning for all those who are gleefully rubbing their hands together and thinking this is by far the easiest route yet to personal power.

Firstly, it is not easy – more often than not energy clearing and shifting is the most time-consuming of activities, and requires considerable dedication and commitment.  Like anything that results in long-term change, it takes real effort.  It does not necessarily happen overnight, and although there are ways to start small while still giving you a real sense of progress, generally it can be very hard work indeed.

Secondly, it can be quite an emotional process – so keep those tissues handy!  You are releasing a lot of stuff that you’ve held on to for a variety of reasons (and only you know why) and, while it may certainly be cathartic and nostalgic, it can sometimes be upsetting.  So be prepared, and be brave, and you won't regret letting the past go, especially when you realize that, done properly, you’re making room for many more wonderful new things to come into your life.

Thirdly, once you’ve started, you need to keep it up to achieve real and lasting results.  Energy clearing is not a thing that you do as a one-off.  It’s an ongoing task and a personal commitment to keeping things moving and maintaining a freshness and vitality in all areas of your life.
