Real Girls Eat

Prawn Pasta

This pasta dish is made with green prawns drenched in onion and garlic, and mixed with a tomato base served on a bed of spinach. It’s great hangover food and it’s not too heavy. I learnt it in Drama class: Improvization.

Minestrone

Long winters without soup are lonely ones indeed. Don’t be put off by what looks like the longest shopping list ever, this minestrone is a cracker!

Pesto Pasta

This is an adaption of my friend Skye’s classic recipe, which she brought back from a trip to Italy. I have been fortunate to eat this many times at her home and I have never tasted a better pesto anywhere. Pesto sauce can be used in so many ways, not just over pasta. You’ll never go hungry if there’s pesto in the fridge!

The power classic

Red apples contain creatine – the great muscle building amino acid! Creatine is in many artificially produced muscle-building powders that weight-lifters use. Why not go straight to the source! Carrots contain beta-carotene and other fabulous anti-oxidents.

Grannie Soup

My Polish Grandmother or Babcia was a supersonic cook.

She cooked with love, she cooked with what she had available in communist times and she always cooked plenty.

Here is my favorite recipe of hers. I can imagine the smell of new season tomatoes boiling gently in butter driving my Dad wild with hunger as a kid.

So I always make this soup when tomatoes are in full seasonal swing, when they are big, ripe and cheap.

minty melon

Juicing is an absolute must in a girlo’s kitchen. We love the instant energy life and the crazy amounts of vitamins in fresh juices. With fresh juice the rule is to drink it as soon as it’s ready so all the goodies can be absorbed in pristine condition – but sip it slowly!

green clean

There are so many juicing recipes, it is impossible to list every combination. What we can recommend is that you can make virtually any juice to your personal taste by working out how much you need of each ingredient. Boost your immune system by using particular combinations for your daily needs. Drinking fresh juices is one of the greatest things you can do to energize your body on an ongoing basis. Get into dark greens: broccoli, spinach, watercress and sprouts. These contain incredible amounts of vitamins and are easily absorbed by the body in juice from. Drink your greens and you’ll feel the energy lift!

buritto mix

Our best tip with these burritos is, when you start making them – don’t put too much in or you can’t wrap and everything falls out. Little bits work! And besides, you can always have another one. They’re like little presents. (And what could be nicer than eating little presents!)

coconut papaya

This smoothie has more than a hint of the Caribbean about it. All you need after having this drink is a hammock by the ocean...

Drew’s Salad

We call Drew’s Salad the ‘kitchen sink’ salad – you can put anything from your fridge in this so pull on your master chef’s hat and feel free to improvise a little.

Pumpkin Risotto

Rice dishes are so great for energy and risotto is a classic. A really easy dish, risotto is quite peaceful to make. Whether your by yourself or cooking for a dinner party, risotto is another mainstay that will keep you and your flatmates happy!
