I had to help a girl who was about to start an internship as a first step in her career. She asked me for some tips (well, her mentor did anyway) and when I sat down to think about it, there were quite a few. So I wrote a quick list and e-mailed it off to her. Then I thought I'll post it here too - maybe you or someone you know is about to start a new job or is in the process of getting some work experience.
