Make travel plans part of your life plan

There’s an old saying that goes something along the lines of ‘life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans.' So true! Which is why, here in Girlo world, we have a bit of a flexible attitude to life and to making plans in general. It’s good to have a plan, but it’s also good to know when to change that plan, if something else needs to happen.
We all have school, study, part-time or full-time work and family obligations. Or a combination of all of these! As a result our lives can seem almost completely mapped-out, with few breaks. On reflection you may come to realise that like all of us, you are – or your life is – fairly ‘planned’ already.
The question you might reasonably have is: ‘How can I find time to plan a trip, let alone to travel?’
There are many ways to create the mental space and therefore real space and time to allow travel to organically become part of your life and your life plan. These strategies might not look or sound like much – it could simply be a general thought such as: ‘I’ll work for another four months, save up some more money and then take the next six months off and travel through South America, before going back to university and finishing my course’ – but that’s a plan. It may seem daunting initially but sometimes all you need is an incentive to work hard, a goal to bring you to a new turning point.
Travel, like most things in life, is best served with full intention.
And a trip doesn’t necessarily have to be a long one either: a week here or two weeks there can be just the boost you need, to help you face another six months of working or getting through those end of year exams. It’s about having something to truly look forward to, something to make the sacrifices (financial, social, maybe emotional) worth it.
And just as the weavers of the best rugs in Turkey obviously know from hard experience, you can take it bit by bit, but be sure to pay careful attention to detail as you go. Weave your dreams into your daily reality and you can truly create something special in – and for – your life.
