Je t’aime, Ti amo, Saya Cinta Kamu, Ich liebe dich… Ah yes, the look of love is in their eyes but what on earth are they truly saying?  Love on the road more or less travelled can certainly be a rollercoaster ride.

Many people meet someone they believe is their soulmate while travelling.  Anything is possible, but there are heartbreaking stories aplenty so when you bat your eyes at the cabana guy in the Maldives, know there will be consequences.

It almost shouldn’t need to be said but of course any physical interaction you engage in should absolutely adhere to safe sex practices.  Safe sex is a practice that is international and mandatory these days.

HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C do not recognize nationality or borders.

No matter what your preference or beliefs, you should be especially careful when you travel if you plan on becoming intimately involved with someone.  For goodness sake, use condoms!  And you should both have a blood test if you plan not to, to protect each other.  Of course the only truly safe sex is no sex and you may consider abstinence as a lifestyle choice to be completely sure.

“Relationships when you are travelling invariably have a more intense angle to them than normal.”

Relationships when you are travelling invariably have a more intense angle to them than normal.  Language and cultural differences aside, often there is a completely different mindset to comprehend as well.  So while this can be enthralling, it can also blind you to the reality of the situation.

Be open to the moment, enjoy meeting and interacting with people – you might indeed meet your soulmate – however try to be conscious that reality can also be a somewhat confronting wake-up call.
