Homecoming Queen

You may feel great. You may feel you look great. You’re beaming with vitality and your new-found confidence is a beacon to all and sundry. Since your arrival back home, your mobile is ringing off the hook, emails are flowing in from all corners of the globe, and you have so many new admirers that you have lost count of your facebook friend requests.
Because you are shining with the glow of someone who is alive and in the flow, you attract the ‘energy’! Keeping a level head is hard to do when you’re the queen bee, but that’s exactly what you must do.
“No matter how much better you feel your life is now that you’ve had all these incredible travel experiences, try to keep things in perspective. Life is always a lesson in balance.”
What goes up must come down and that doesn’t just apply to gravity, it’s a truism that applies to each of us. Manage this new stage of your life as you would any other, with grace and humility, appreciation and a sense of gratitude.
Humble pie is always sweet
Be confident and yet humble about your travel experiences. It’s about keeping things in perspective. Don’t forget that while you were out and about and traipsing around the globe, there were others holding the fort back home to keep things going. They must have been, otherwise how would you have such a nice soft landing pad to return to?
The point is to try and remember not to take for granted what you have – either at home or away.
Show ‘n’ Tell
While we’re on the subject about being humble, it is always wise to downplay the amazing time you had when you were away. Being sensitive to others, who may have been going through something difficult while you were having the time of your life, is sensible and shows you are mature. Don’t brag or go on and on about your trip. People will ask if they are interested. Showing off will put them off.
Keep the mantra ‘less is more’ close to mind. Don’t assume others want to hear every single detail, even your Mum will have a limited bandwidth at a certain point. Keep the trip photos to a minimum – pick out the top 20 and have something brief to say about each. Remember the golden rule of showbiz: Always keep ‘em wanting more!
